Vintage Fender Bass Guitars
Fender Basses made before 1965 are considered very high quality intsruments. This is because the founder of the company, Leo Fender enforced very strict quality standards to the manufacturing process. After 1965, the company was bought out by the CBS Corporation at which time quality control took a nose dive. This is why the slang expression of "pre-CBS" is common knowledge amongst informed musicians. Any instrument which is Pre-CBS demands a much higher sale price due to the inherent quality of the instrument. Since they are no longer made, their value continues to rise as supply remains constant while demand increases.

Contributor's Note
I, myself, have a goal to purchase BOTH a pre-CBS Fender Precision Bass as well as Jazz bass because they are disappearing commodities and I just plain love looking at them as well as playing them. They can cost form $2-12,000 each depending on the year they were made and their condition.
